Best time to visit Saona Island
December to April: dry season
Highest demand window. Daily highs 28 to 30 degrees Celsius, water 26 to 27, almost no rain and calm seas every day. Book at least one week ahead, two weeks during Christmas, New Year and Easter.
May, June and November: shoulder season
Slightly warmer with brief afternoon showers but mornings are sunny and tours run as scheduled. Fewer crowds and 10 to 20 percent cheaper rates than peak season. Excellent value.
August to October: hurricane season
Atlantic hurricane peak. Most tours still operate but daily afternoon storms and occasional cancellations are common. If you book in this window pick a tour with free cancellation and check the National Hurricane Center forecast 48 hours before.
What to do if your tour is cancelled
Saona tours cancelled by the operator are fully refunded. If your trip is short and weather forecasts a bad day, swap the Saona day for an inland excursion like the Hoyo Azul cenote or a Punta Cana cultural tour and rebook Saona for a calmer day.
